WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP STOP THE VIOLENCE

  • Insist on the accountability of the perpetrators of intimate-partner violence;
  • Speak out and advocate for victims and survivors;
  • Write to editors of local newspapers and your legislative districts;
  • Practice and teach non-violence and gender equity;
  • Learn more about healthy relationships;
  • If you know someone affected by domestic violence, offer to help; encourage them to call a Safe Homes advocate to discuss options and resources;
  • If a victim expresses a desire to talk about an abusive situation, listen. Do not judge.
  • Talk to your employer, religious congregation or community group about holding a Safe Homes' presentation on Domestic Violence and Healthy Relationships;
  • Find out if your employer has a workplace violence policy? (Safe Homes can help developing one.)
  • Before casting your vote, learn where political candidates, especially judges, stand on the issue of domestic violence.
