In Orange County...Access to Home Program funds, which are available on a countvwide basis, will provide up to $25,000 per residence as a deferred loan to allow any physically disabled individual - including seniors, returning veterans, children or non-owners/tenants - with mobility limitations or disabilities to remain in or RETURN to their home and avoid institutionalization through the construction/rehabilitation of the residence. Wheel-chair ramps and lifts, handrails, easy-to-reach kitchen, work and storage areas, lever handles on doors and roll-in showers with grab bars are just a few of the improvements that the Access to Home Program can provide funding for. The RESTORE program is able to serve approximately 30 households. In order to be considered eligible for funding, one homeowner must be 60 years of age or older and must own the property. Household income may not exceed 80 percent of the area's median income. Any work undertaken cannot exceed $7,500 per building. RDAC is currently working with other local agencies and volunteer groups such as the Orange County Office for the Aging, Faith in Action in Middletown, the Town of Montgomery Senior Independence Project (TOMSIP).
