Residential Emergency Services to Offer Repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE) and Access to Home Programs

** Orange County Rural Development Advisory Corp. is currently applying for more grant money.

According to Orange County Rural Development Advisory Corporation (RDAC), the Residential Emergency Services to Offer Repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE) and Access to Home Programs - two state-funded financial assistance programs that allow for the rehabilitation of homes for the elderly and those with disabilities - still have funds available to help senior citizen in the Town of Montgomery and persons with physical disabilities throughout Orange County.

In Orange County...

Access to Home Program funds, which are available on a countvwide basis, will provide up to $25,000 per residence as a deferred loan to allow any physically disabled individual - including seniors, returning veterans, children or non-owners/tenants - with mobility limitations or disabilities to remain in or RETURN to their home and avoid institutionalization through the construction/rehabilitation of the residence. Wheel-chair ramps and lifts, handrails, easy-to-reach kitchen, work and storage areas, lever handles on doors and roll-in showers with grab bars are just a few of the improvements that the Access to Home Program can provide funding for. RDAC is working with Independent Living, Inc. to provide this service throughout Orange County.

In the Town of Montgomery...

The RESTORE program provides senior residents of the Town of Montgomery or any of its three villages with emergency repairs to address any housing-related problem that requires prompt mitigation to resolve or prevent barriers to a safe and healthy home living. The RESTORE program is able to serve approximately 30 households. In order to be considered eligible for funding, one homeowner must be 60 years of age or older and must own the property. Household income may not exceed 80 percent of the area's median income. Any work undertaken cannot exceed $7,500 per building. RDAC is currently working with other local agencies and volunteer groups such as the Orange County Office for the Aging, Faith in Action in Middletown, the Town of Montgomery Senior Independence Project (TOMSIP).

Applicants should contact RDAC by phone at 845-457-4622 extension 11 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
