An ever-growing population of seniors call the Town of Montgomery their home. In an effort to enhance and improve the lives of its older residents, the Town offers an extensive range of services and programs to help its seniors remain healthy, independent and active in our community. Among the current programs being offered are medical and shopping transportation, income tax preparation, AARP 55 Alive/Mature Driving Classes, Nutrition Program (Home Delivered Meals'), Senior Independence Project (friendly visitor/transportation program) Aging and Enhanced STAR Tax Exemptions, senior citizen clubs and the Wesley Hall Senior Citizen Center.

 


MEDICAL AND SHOPPING TRANSPORTATION

 

The Senior bus makes monthly scheduled trips outside the town and also makes two medical runs each month to any medical facility on Crystal Run Road in Middletown, Middletown Medical, Orange Radiology and Horton Hospital. For reservations, call the Transportation Department at (845) 457-2622 between the hours of 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon, Monday through Friday. Please see bottom of page for the most current trip schedule. SUGGESTED DONATION IS $1.00 EACH WAY

 


INCOME TAX PREPARATION

 

The Town of Montgomery Town Clerk's Office in conjunction with the Orange County Office of the Aging assists seniors in completing simple personal Federal and State tax forms. Be sure to contact the Town Clerk's Office during January to schedule an appointment at (845) 457-2660.

 


AARP 55 ALIVE/MATURE DRIVING CLASSES

 

Classes are held periodically at the Town of Montgomery Government Center and save seniors 10% on their car insurance bills. Please contact the Town Clerk's Office at (845) 457-2660 to see when the next scheduled class will be held.

 

 


NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY (Home Delivered Meals)

The Town of Montgomery-Crawford Nutrition Program in conjunction with a cooperative venture with the Orange County Office for the Aging, provides meals for anyone over the age of 60 years old. Lunch is served daily weekdays at the Walden United Methodist Church, West Main Street and delivered to shut-ins in the Towns of Montgomery and Crawford.

Community volunteers to deliver meals to seniors within the communities of Walden, Montgomery and Maybrook are needed. Those interested can call Pat Langle at 845-291-2175.

 


AGING AND ENHANCED STAR TAX EXEMPTIONS

Seniors should contact the Town of Montgomery Assessor's Office at (845) 457-2650 to see if they qualify for these exemptions.


SENIOR CITIZEN CLUBS

 

  • New Horizons Senior Citizen Club
  • Meetings held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at the Wesley Hall Senior Center.
  • Walden Senior Citizen Club
  • Meetings held weekly at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Walnut Street. Contact (845) 778-5310 for information.
  • Golden Links Senior Citizens Club


Meetings held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesdays at the Assumption Church Hall, Homestead Avenue, Maybrook. Contact (845) 427-2450 for information.

*The Medical Run pick up will begin 8:00 am. We travel to Middletown stopping at any medical facility on Crystal Run Road, Middletown Medical, Orange Radiology and Horton Hospital.

For Senior Citizens 60 and over

Five (5) persons per trip are required to make each trip possible. This does not apply for the Medical Runs.

The Senior Bus is funded by the Town of Montgomery, Town of Crawford, Village of Maybrook, Village of Montgomery, Village of Walden, NYS and the Orange County Office for the Aging.
