The work of the Town of Montgomery Historian is defined by two official sources: The Town of Montgomery Supervisor and Town Board, and the State of New York.

Article 57, Divisions of History and Public Records, Section 57.13 of Arts and Cultural Affairs Law sets the guidelines for the Local Government Historian. This law can be viewed at the website of the New York State Museum (http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/services/artslaw.html). Pertinent points can be found below. By clicking on the word highlighted in red, you may see the current projects of the Town of Montgomery Historian that fall within that area.

The Town of Montgomery Historian also is a member of the Association of Public Historians of New York State. Information about that organization may be found at http://www.aphnys.org
