The Town of Montgomery operates three Department of Health (DOH) approved community water systems (CWS) and two fire protection systems: Lake Vue Water District serves drinking water to 48 homes on Lake Vue Drive and Carmen Place. Hyndman Heights Water District is a distribution system that purchases its water from the Village of Montgomery and supplies water to 12 homes and a business along State Route 17K. Water District #1 provides drinking water and fire protection to homes and businesses in the Morrison Heights area of the Town and along Neelytown Road. Water Improvement Districts 2B and 3B provide water solely for fire protection in the business districts on Bracken Road and one end of Neelytown Road, respectively. As well as maintaining a sufficient supply of water the Town also treats upwards of 150,000 gallons per day (gpd) of domestic wastewater. The Town is permitted to discharge this treated water to the Wallkill River by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) . The quality of this water after leaving the treatment facility surpasses that of the water found in the River itself. Any questions regarding municipal water and sewer can be directed to the Engineer for the Town (845-457-2642). The telephone number for the wastewater treatment plant is 845-457-9906. The Town of Montgomery is a member of the New York Rural Water Association and has been designated a Groundwater Guardian by the Orange County Water Authority.
